It has become much more embarrassing to say a four letter word starting at F in public – FILM!
I got my first DSLR exactly one year ago. My film consumption has become way down ever since.
I, however, noticed recently that my skill of photography has deteriorated. Just before I got DSLR, I was shooting color positive films without bracketing. Because I had a “feel” to get perfect exposure, I did not need bracketing.
I think I am loosing this “ feel”. This is probably because I have been relying on DSLR’s fantastic feature ; auto-everything.
It is kind of interesting that I started using films more often recently just for fun, after one year of honeymoon period with my DSLR.
I don’t care what other people say, but I tell you – shooting film is still fun even in this digital era.
Needless to say, digital is much more versatile and I can’t come back to film completely any more.
After all, it is my hobby. If you are pro, I guess it is totally a different story, though.

I agree, digital does tend to make us lazy. Rather than spend the effort to get the perfect shot, we shoot off 100 photos in a burst.
I tend to find some of my favorite photos were taken with my manual film camera, not because it's film but because I had to use my head, rather than let the camera do all the work.
Maybe I could try keeping my camera in manual everything mode for a day. That might be an interesting experiment.
Hi, Jay. Thank you very much for your comment.
I think what you said "because I had to use my head, rather than let the camera do all the work" is very important. These days, cameras do everything for us, and inevitably we become lazy. (however, it is a great achievement of industrial technology)
In a way we are very lucky that we can enjoy both film and digital. Twenty years ago, we couldn't do it, and also we will not be able to do it at some point in the future perhaps.
Although I did not tell anybody, my plan this year is to use at least one roll of film a month.
Thanks, again, Jay.
Keep shooting!
